I'm Ingunn. This blog is about learning to make photos instead of just taking them. This is where I collect and express ideas and thoughts, and sometimes I might get sidetracked, too! There is so much to be learned. I have an urge for making life better, simpler and tastier. My picture galleries are in the sections travel and portfolio. I write in English, but I am Norwegian, and comments are most welcome in both languages.

Out of focus

The Shutter Sisters blog is a constant source of inspiration, and I take great interest in reading the posts and comments. Today the theme in question is how placing something out of focus can add interest. I immediately thought about a photo I took last summer in Collioure, Southern France, of my husband and daughter. I love how they walk together down the narrow street, the colors and the warmth that is clearly present, not only in the air but also between them. I remember focusing on the irrigated copper urn instead of on the two to capture the mood of the moment. To me, this is maybe the ultimate picture of a distant, but vivid summer memory.

Placing the object out of focus is a neat technique that I want to explore further. Thanks for reminding me!
