Hi,

I'm Ingunn. This blog is about learning to make photos instead of just taking them. This is where I collect and express ideas and thoughts, and sometimes I might get sidetracked, too! There is so much to be learned. I have an urge for making life better, simpler and tastier. My picture galleries are in the sections travel and portfolio. I write in English, but I am Norwegian, and comments are most welcome in both languages.

Project | Pond study

Misty Autumn morning

I've decided to undertake challenge no 1, the one I described the other day. Rules: My aim is to produce a series of 6 images every month at my chosen location, the pond Drengsrudvanna near my home. I will go there during or close to the last weekend in every month for a full year. I can take as many pictures as I like, but I have to reduce them to 6 during post-processing. Cropping is allowed in post-processing, but not desirable. I can choos any kind of post-processing I like, but the 12 final photos should have a similar style. I have no limitations of my choice of gear. From these 6 finished images I then have to choose only one, the one I feel is best conveying the mood at the pond at that particular moment.  I have no limitations of my choice of gear.

Picture no. 1 is now finished. There is a floating, grassy little islet in the middle of the pond. I was fascinated by the morning mist and sun that promised a bright autumnal day, and I tried to catch this mood. I used a zoom to compress the elements, and I found an angle that allowed the mist to create an illusion of depth.

What is the purpose of this game? I want to study the changes in light and color during the seasons. I hope to learn to communicate my visions more clearly, to become a better observer and to learn a lot more about making photographs. I hope to be able to produce a series of images that maybe can result in an exhibition, a calendar and postcard collection. Maybe I can exhibit at a cafe in my local community next autumn if someone is interested. Oh my God, now it's out there!
